Whether it’s cold beer, iced tea, or spring water you are craving, Brown Distributing Company has been delivering quality beverages and servicing the Austin area for over 50 years. President J. Dan Brown founded the beer company that bears his name in 1962 at age 27. Since then, Brown Distributing has grown from a company with three trucks and four employees, to selling close to ten million cases of beer and non-alcoholic beverages annually, while employing around 400 people.
Brown Distributing was an exclusive Anheuser-Busch Wholesaler until 2008. Today, at our beer company, we are distributing a variety of domestic, craft, import and non-alcoholic brands. Brown Distributing’s quality products and customer service have helped us to become the Austin market leader in the beer industry, with a 42% market share. “No matter how big you get in this business, the personal touch and relationships are very important,” says Laurie Brown, Vice President and daughter. “We treat the customer who buys two cases a week the same as we treat the one who buys 200.”
In 1999, the beer company consolidated our Austin, San Marcos and Taylor branches into a new 325,000 square-foot location on Johnny Morris Road in Austin. In addition to expanded corporate offices, the new building features 125,000 square-feet of climate controlled warehouse space and ample space for the Brown Distributing fleet of more than 380 vehicles. In addition to the Austin location, Brown Distributing also has a satellite location in La Grange, Texas.
Brown Distributing takes immense pride in the communities in which we do business. Each year the company donates close to a million dollars to various non-profit, civic, and educational organizations and sponsors over 500 charitable events throughout their Central Texas distribution area. Brown Distributing values these relationships that have been built over the past 50 years, including partnerships with The University of Texas and Texas State University athletics programs, Round Rock Express, Texas Stars, ACL Live, Circuit of the Americas, ROT Biker Rally, Lone Star Jam and Austin Reggae Festival.
Being a distributor of alcoholic beverages, we do our part in making sure our products are consumed responsibly by adults over the age of 21. Throughout the year, we execute a number of programs focusing on underage drinking prevention, as well as the importance of drinking responsibly and designating a driver.
In addition to these responsible drinking programs, Brown Distributing also strives to better Central Texas through internal recycling and energy conservation efforts. We also encourage our employees, and the community, to volunteer for local litter clean-ups, park beautifications, and water conservation efforts by partnering with local organizations like Keep Austin Beautiful and Colorado River Alliance.
